ABOUT US

Askiy Advisory Group is a First Nations owned business operating out of Edmonton, Alberta and Victoria, BC. We are dedicated to mobilizing First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and Non-Indigenous communities by providing strategic consulting services that foster sustainable development and growth. Our work is grounded in the guiding principles of; respect and Indigenous knowledge preservation, meaningful engagement, good faith and equity, accommodation and adaptability, and capacity building. 

 

Askiy Advisory Group has over 40 years of experience working with First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and non-profit communities across Canada. Current and past experience for Askiy Advisory Group includes large scale consultation and engagement planning and implementation, facilitating and organizing workshops, proposal research and development, program evaluations, impact assessment, co-management parks strategies, and Traditional Land-use.

We work with First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and non-profit communities in defining their priorities and taking control of their own development. By focusing on community-driven, nation-based planning, we help ensure that governance structures are aligned with the unique needs and aspirations of each community, fostering self-determination and long-term success.

We work closely with communities to develop strategic plans that address their unique needs, ensuring sustainable growth and long-term development. We offer comprehensive planning and engagement services in key areas such as housing, land use, land trusts, resource management, parks management, education, and health. We provide support in training, research coordination, and the implementation of best practices in decision-making processes.

We offer policy development and analysis services tailored to the unique cultural, social, and economic needs of First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and Non-profit communities. We assist in business planning, grant and fund development, and help create sustainable economic strategies. 

OUR TEAM

Donna Hovsepian is a member of Pimichikamak Cree Nation (Cross Lake), Treaty 5 Territory, and the Founder and Director of Askiy Advisory Group, a consulting firm based in Edmonton, Alberta. With over 40 years of experience, Donna specializes in strategic planning, policy development, and engagement, focusing on sustainable governance and the integration of Indigenous Knowledge. Her work supports First Nations, Métis, Inuit, and Non-Indigenous communities in creating lasting, equitable development and fostering economic prosperity. Donna’s extensive background includes roles with First Nations and Métis governments, Alberta and Manitoba provincial agencies, and federal departments like Indigenous Services Canada. She holds an MA in Environment and Management from Royal Roads University and a BA in Indigenous Studies from the University of Manitoba.

Elissa is a proud member of York Factory First Nation, with Swampy Cree and Denesuline heritage, and ties to Pimicikamak Cree Nation. Based in Victoria, BC, Elissa is an Indigenous and socio-economic strategist with over 10 years of experience. She is passionate about Indigenous sovereignty, digital media, and storytelling. As a consultant, Elissa has contributed to Traditional Land Use Studies, Cumulative Impacts Assessments, Indigenous Knowledge protection, and governance. She also specializes in multimedia research, report production, and online content design, helping amplify Indigenous voices in a variety of project initiatives. She holds a Diploma in Canadian Studies and a Bachelor of Arts with distinction, specializing in Indigenous Studies and Digital Media from the University of Victoria. 

PROJECT BACKGROUNDS

We have worked on a variety of initiatives supporting Indigenous communities across multiple sectors. This includes engagement on housing solutions for off-reserve First Nations, as well as developing strategic plans for provincial and local Friendship Centres. We have also supported communities in improving medical transportation and boarding home services.
